For anyones who's interesteded, here's a step by step photo guide to making a welsh fish! Nothing to in depth but if anyone has any questions feel free to ask.
Note when moving from stage to stage when shaping you never actually quite finish each stage before moving on to the next as you can be sure that marks will appear on the board so you always leave abit in hand to go back to later, gradually getting more and more careful as you go.

Cutting out the outline.

Then you put in the rocker and shape the bottom.

Mark out your rail bands.

Image

Checking the rails bands for uniformity.

More to follow.

Rough in the deck first.
Then you need to go back and finish the bottom, all the time eyeing up thwe different parts of the board. Try not to concentrate on individual bits but look at the board as a whole.

Image

Cutting in the swallow tail, be very careful.

Image

No photo to show but you put the tucked under edge in next then you can move onto shaping in the rails..

Image

And the swallow tail. All this is done using dragon skin!

Still more to come.

Once you have the shape almost finished go away leave it for abit the n return and check it over again.

Image

Then you can glass. This board is having a resin tint on the bottom with cutlap and spray job on the deck so some masking off is needed first.

Once the resin has gelled you can cut the lap and remove the mask.

Very nice KS!!

I'm gathering ideas for some glassing stands--how do you have yours set up? I was thinking chest high so I can get in and do the laps, maybe something to just set on top of the shaping stands? (Kinda looks like what you did?)

I hate shaping around the stringer.....especially when it's PVC, it won't go down but everything near it goes so fast....seems a buttcrack on a fish would be harder than I thought!

Oh yeah looks like duffmans stolen wish kids board!
Fortunately i have a well tuned sense of humour and pat there's nothing wrong with burgendy, if you're drinking it that is!
Tom my glassing stands are as you've sugested chest high. You need to be able to get both on top and underneath easily.
Here's acouple of photos showing the glassing stand, it's just a few bits of wood knocked together and screwed onto the top of the shaping stand. Note the plastic bags to keep the resin off the shaping stand else your next board will get chunks taken out of it. Also you want the supports for the glassing stand as close in as you can get them without comprimising stability to allow you do do the laps easily.

Hoping to spray the board later on this week then i can finish the glassing over the weekend.

Cheers KS

Here we go another update.
Painted the deck last night in the style of a japanese/welsh rising sun as requested.
First time i've done a paint job and was most pleased with the outcome.

Holy Crap that paint job looks fleshin' awsome!!!!!! All looks very proffessional, have you ever made a board for a hobbit before? Obviously i'm sure you would love to do it for free just so you could tell your mates "i made a board for that pippin out of LOTR".
