I have not been able to surf because of an injury for ten years. I had surgery to repair my neck and got clearance to go out in the water. I bought a wetsuit a couple weeks ago but couldn't go out in the water because I got sick. Then my buddy breaks the board he was going to let me use a couple days after I got better. Bummer! But another buddy had a nine footer he let me borrow!!! I was going to go out today but it way too crowded for me to be out, so I'll wait for Monday morning. When I mean crowded, I mean there were more than a hundred people out in the water all strung along.

How did you injure your neck???
About 12 years ago I dived into the sea and thought it was a lot deeper than it was. I totally compressed my spine, and did something to my neck but it's been ok.......until yesterday. I was in a restaurant and turned my neck and trapped a nerve and nearly fainted!!!
Hope you get some good waves Monday.....be careful!

A very minor car accident and I pinched a nerve in my neck. It tooks years of fighting with the insurance company to allow me the surgery.

Thats wierd I did a similar thing 3 yrs ago! I ran into the water to thigh deep and dove in at a shallow angle which should have been ok except for the sand was uneven on the sea bed meaning it was only half as deep as it would have been. It was just pure sand, no shingle, but I twatted my head onto it hard enough to feel/hear this nasty crunch/click in my neck and got a big graze on my forehead. It hurt, so I wiggled my head about to see if it was ok  (duh!) and walked home feeling a bit dazed and then decided to goto A&E to get it checked out. I'd only done soft tissue damage but at one stage I was lying taped to a bed with a collar on with 3 Drs discussing whether or not my cervical vertibrae C2 had a fracture! As it happens all was cool but the X-ray was hard to decypher.
I'm just left with a neck that clicks more when I stretch it.

Isnt that standard medical procedure? :D

My neck grinds more than clicks and in the last couple of weeks I'm finding I have to be careful about turning my head suddenly, cos it f**king hurts!!

LOL! Until my surgery my neck made all sorts of noises!

I went out today!!! It was a very warm day, a few chicks out in bikinins on long boards made it even more enjoyable! I mean some HOTTIES!!! Anyway, I didnt actually catch a wave, got tossed on one and paddled around alot, lol. I had a blast anyway!!! I tired staying away from the main crowd so i didnt screw up and hurt anyone but it was still alot of fun. :D :D

The water wasn't as cold as I remember but maybe thats because wetsuits are made better these days.
