I'm bored again, and feel like making a sponge in my spare time. I saw the idea on swaylocks, and its rather simple and pretty cheap, and I wouldn't mind giving it a go.

So my question is--is shape brutually important like in surfboards? What size? Rail shape?

I'm 5'11" and 175 if that helps. Will be doing small mushy waves.

With bodyboardis is all in the rocker and length...

shape doesn't really make that much difference in general terms. I wouldn't bother with odd shapes cause its pointless and been tried allready.. Just make sure you don't cut it and let it warp with a negative rocker!

So I'm thinking like 42.5 or something? I just read a little chart on a site.

So how much rocker do your boards have? I can either glue in the rocker or I could just shape it in if it doesn't require much.

Yeah around the 43 mark should do in length. Have as little rocker as poss and make it a little thicker than normal for boyancy. say about 3inch.

Make sure you get the different material layering right or it'll be bendy as fook. plus will proberly snap fairly quickly.

sounds good. Apparenlty two layers of XPS is plenty strong with those three glue joints which function as a stringer, so I should be fine.

And I found a rather good source for EVA foam.

But I don't really understand, where are the elbow pads?

I didn't know that sponges had elbow pads built into them. (or was the guy just talking about putting them on your elbows)?

The only thing remotly close on some models are ribs in the deck...

all you need is a splodge of wax where the hands go.. (nose and mid rail) and a few lines accross the main deck.. not to much or you can shift your weight as easy.
If its a good deck material then there is no need at all for pads over the elbow areas.

whoops, I got kinda confused when the guy started talking about elbow pads for the board....maybe something was lost in translation....
