yea i have one, i dont really think they work. i have the short egg shaped one, it helps kinda balancing forward but since it goes from front to back, i dont see how it would help.

if you're going to buy one i would suggest getting the really long board. its significantly harder and can better train your balance. i havent really noticed a difference, but im sure its just gradual balance training. i have gotten better at surfing tho...maybe it does work :?

I've got one and I think they're amazing.
For exercising the right muscles (the balance ones, not paddling!), for improving balance, for improving flexibility you cant go wrong :D

Its definitely improved my balance, generally and on a board. They seem particularly good for rescuing moves when all seems lost, but you can drag the balance out of nowhere and rescue that throwaway move :D

I made one and I think it works. On some stuff. Balance hasn't been a big issue for me surfing. So yeah, I guess it has improved it some, but I didn't need a ton of improvement in that area.

But it does definately strengthen your knees and increase your flexibility. Especially if you are a skiier. I was doing like 20 minutes a day with my ski poles for a while and I think it really helped me skiing. I could do longer runs with very deep carves (which take a lotta knee strength) than I could earlier.

Moral of the story, just grab a piece of plywood and make your self one. And if you don't like it, you didn't waste much money (or any if you went correctly dumpster diving :D )

And if you do like it, great!

You're not trying hard enough...

Just kidding - depends on what and how you ride. I thought for ages that balance wasnt an issue. Recently Ive pushed it harder, and suddenly balance is an issue again. In a good way. I love a loose slidey board :D

mmm yea, it is a good work out, after about 5 minutes of constant balancing on the indo, my thighs were kind of worn out. it does strengthen your muscles, and dont think "oh well, then i could go to the gym and do quad lifts and i will balance better" well, your strength in your legs will get stronger, but not your balance. the indo helps with balance, ill say that

I think the indo board provides a different kind of work out than any lifting I have done. I lifted four times a week for 2 years, and nothing I did particurally isolated my knees like the indo board. Also, with the indo board, you are constantly moving and using different muscles over an extended period of time, instead of like on squats, where you use just your quadracepts. So doing squats where you hold the weight halfway down for five minutes is kinda like the indo board.

Indo boards are with out doubt the surfers ultimate exercise device, the obvious use is balance which strengthens both legs and the core muscles, but this can be taken 1 step further with doing both dynamic and static squats on the IndoBoard to further increase leg strength.
Also the indo board is good for working on popups! get into the pressup position with the each end of the inboard under each hand (the roller being centred under your head area) then do press ups as normal. This introduces balance muscles in your arms into the pressup.
This again can be taken 1 step further with going into pressup position as prior mentioned then as you do the push up pop up your hands off the board landing next to(not back on) the indobaord with your hands on the floor in the pressup position or go for the full popup.

:D

You cant beat a session on the indo when you're finding it hard to walk

The trick then is to keep it moving, dont try and balance too much, but go with the wobbly flow :D

Any body have one of these? Or, heard anything about them?

Looks to be better than the indo board.

The one I built was inspired by our very own Making Your Own Indo Board and Kathy's How to Build a Balance Board.

Works nice. I keep playing around building different rollers... And different boards :D
