Surfing Waves

Hi all! i'm 17 and live in hertfordshire, so miles from the sea! I'm quite interested in trying to shape my own board however i'm not sure how. Does anyone know of any good books? or is there anyone in the hertfordshire area that shapes who could show me the ropes?

that should get you started, 10 minutes and google does a lotta good.

Surfersteve is an AWESOME site, IMO. There's a reason that one went first. although the swaylocks link is also very good.

Also, go to swaylocks, and read. Just read for a while, get a good idea of what you are doing. Don't say anything unless it's original on there. They don't like repeat post like "how do you shape?" or "where do I get ___"?

Read the Surfboard_Design_and_Construction_1977.pdf, a bit old but the basics are exactly the same. Unless you were planning compsand construction :D

Then hang around Swaylocks and it's forum.

Oh yeah! Forgot about the 77 pamphlet. After the egg (which is inspired from that ) I think I'm doing a Lis Fish.

Hey dude,

Nice one shaping boards is great fun, i find it as addictive as surfing itself and the really good thing is you get stoked even before you get anywhere near the water. Shaping boards for others is awesome too.
Get yourself copies of shaping 101 and glassing 101, these videos are really good and show you absolutely everything you need, tools, process and techniques on how to make your own boards. Step by step instruction, an absolute must!
If you get stuck with anything bung as a pm, i've made quite a few boards now and should be able to help you out.

i'm also making a surfboard at the mo, but i'm making it hollow...
Have made moulds for the top and bottom of the board, am gonna do a lay up job, with two skins separated with a honeycomb core for the top and bottom section, was wondering if anyone has any ideas on the best way to fit the two halves together as dont want it to separate the first time i use it!
