Best surf spots in the world??

hey guys, ive just gotten this crazy idea about going on a surfing trip around the world - seeing (and surfing, obviously) all the famous spots.

So far I am thinking, pipe (would give it a go on a small day!), mavericks, somewhere in austrailia.....

anywhere you international lot could recommend??

Im not planning on embarking on this trip until at least next summer, so have plenty of time to practise and get better before i go and make a xxxxx of myself around the globe

Sounds like a hell of a shout, check out a site called beachwizard they have a load of info on all sorts of spots around europe, also check out stormrider guide (book) thats meant to be pretty insightful.
Why famous spots? Wouldnt it be better to surf less famous areas that way you can avoid all the crowds and would score cheaper accomodation.

Im off to Portugal around octoberish, just taking a board and hiring a car when I get over there, intend to sleep in the car next to the breaks then every 3rd day stay on a campsite to wash in warm water. Cheap as chips! Sweet as a nut!

You're in Wales... so hop on a ferry to Ireland, drive across, stopping for the occasional pint of Guinnes, get to the west coast and... voila... world-class waves without any crowds

Something to bear in mind is that a lot of these 'famous' spots dont actually work unless its big, or very big. And when they are working, they're likely to be too much for mere mortals, and some of them you'd need a tow-in

What Im getting at is, if you're planning a surf trip you're better off going to a region with a variety of breaks (SW france is a good start, portugal too) where there are breaks for every level.

(Yes, I know they're are 'beginner' breaks near Pipe. But there are places a lot closer to Wales)

That's just a thought - still plan that trip though!

For Oz your could try Cyclops or Shipsterns.

If those are a bit heavy for you, ya could give Kirra, The Supabank or Byron Bay a go.

And a mere three hours drive from my place you'l find world famous Cactus, with nearby Caves and Rafters.

since september , but yeah; i dont think you have to be REALLY good to go have a good time surfing different places - as long as I'm safe and stoked that'll do me!

As you are fairly new *ish* to surfing...I personally recommend The Almighty Cyclops (echo cyclops), and Shipsterns bluff (Echo bulf..)

Nah only kidding. Would be a wee bit crazy.

Try all of the Gold coast, great surf for all surfers!!

Do a bit more research first... surfing different places is one thing but only able to rattle off some of the better known heavy spots is another... Plenty of good spots all over the place that aren't likely to cause physical injury if you "happen" to make a mistake.
