No one in the water

Since there aren't a lot of people who surf where I live (Chinese culture is petrified of the ocean) a lot of the time i go surfing, I am the only one in the water. I personally hate this. I mean, its nice not to have to share waves but its nice to have someone watching your back. Someone to see you catching waves. etc.

Im also a lot more worried about sharks when im the only one in the water, especially if its around sunset and the water is murky, arrghh talk about sharky!!!
But on the other hand i seem to have a flashing neon sign above my head that says "come and surf RIGHT next to me, steal all my waves and hit me with your board, i love it". This always seems to happen when there are beautiful waves breaking everywhere and hardly any one else out and people have to come and sit right next to me.
Im not sure which is worse!!!!

guys guys guys, there shouldn't even be a debate about this! i would almost kill for empty beaches, when the only sound you here is the whistling wind and the crash of the waves. just yesterday a mate and i went out at sunrise here and it was just 6 of us total in the ocean at the time, and that was great. about 20 minutes later, 5 more people get in, and come right in where me and my buddy are! and we are not at a small beach, there were plenty other breaks around. and then before long, the rest of the pack charges in, and its another carnival atmosphere at oz's most famous beach.
oh, but back to the point, never underestimate the tranquility that comes with a deserted beach.

I have surfed by my self, and with at least 50 people on one very small peak.
I would take by my self...
get a friend into it! Then ya'll can yell at each other and stuff.
When I am out there with 50 other people, I don't know any...

I dont complain about surfing alone on smallish days. Its when the waves are big and powerful that I think about how nice it would be to have someone else in the water. Today happened to be one of the latter. It didn't look that big when I was on the shore but when I paddled out monster set after monster set rolled in and worked my ass like a pogo stick.

Yeah, surfing those waves on my own would be hell. How do you cope?
Personally I cant wait until the august bank holiday so I can surf at Croyde and know that if I get into trouble I can walk to the shore on a million swell boards
(Sarcasm may be the lowest form of wit, but its always been popular in the UK)

FormosanSurfer,
Well, I agree with you. I don't wanna surf with noone else around, at all, 100% solo.
It's so much more fun with a buddy or two. Perfect, for me, is 4-6 people (total) in the water...

yeah im honestly scared to surf by myself. id rather have someone along not only to look after eachother but so there is a witness incase i do something extroadinarily epic...or i get attacked by a shark. but also to share stories with.
