worst thing thats happened to you surfing...ever!

well it's unsurfable over here, so passing a little time on this site might hold me over...just thinking of the times i've had a bad outting, and realised that i haven't had anything too bad happen to me. the worst i've got is just the damn bluebottles (portugese man-o-war) and a sprained ankle. so what about the more experienced surfers out there? what's the worst injury, bite, sting or surfer fight you've had and where?

worst i can remember is getting a minimal on the head and being knocked out, the guy was about 10 yards in fornt of me paddling out and bailed his board into a broken wave, i didnt see it and suckdived the wave head on into the oncoming board. Came round concussed and confuseed trying to work out what i was doing in the sea, then a mate saw the blood streaming from my head and came over to remind me that i was surfing and should probably get paddling so off i went. Needless to say i didnt surf that well that day.

when i was a little grom about 10 i was heading to the beach with my dad after buying my first hard board, dead excited and all that, but before i even got to the waters edge i slipped on a rock and cracked my chin open. I had 12 sitches and concusion.....and my mum made me wear a helmet for the next 6 months whenever i went surfing. Plus everyone mistook me for boy because it looked like a had beard....yup good child hood memories!

AHHHHHHHHHHH Jennie, You poor little thing!!!! I think experiences like that can scar you for life!! (Being made to wear a helmet and mistaken for a boy with a beard)
Very funny though :D

The only bad things that have happened to me are long bad hold downs. One time I got so pounded into the floor, I thought my eardrums had exploded and when I surfaced, I expected my ears to be bleeding. I couldnt hear properly for days.

the day i got my 5'10 al merrick sashimi from the shop back fully repaired from previous dings from my leash breaking and getting thrown into the rocks i paddled out. waves were just closing out like nothing and on my last wave in, it closed out behind me (i was going backside) and took my off my feet, my board flipped and the wave pushed me forward slamming my knee into the board. at first i thought it was nothing so i paddled back out for another one but it wasnt happening so i went in. i look at my board that i just got back in PERFECT CONDITION was cracked, in numerous places with foam sticking out. i was soo pissed. but then i looked in the cracks, and i saw a bunch of hairs and brown stuff stuck in the board, and i was like wtf? i didnt hit a coconut, are those coconut hairs? or seaweed stuck in my board? just then a lady came screaming to me "are you all right what happened?!" and was like what do you mean and she pointed to my leg and my entire leg was blood red, just streams of blood pooring from my knee. i then realized the hair and brown stuff in the crack of my board was my own skin and hair from my knee. so not only did i bust a few cracks and big ass dents in my boards, i gashed my knee open and was out of surfing for a week, and this is the first surf i had with my board back from the shop.....it sucked

Ive gotten calf cramps in bad situations before. Caught inside with calf cramps. I got held down on my knees on the bottum for a while in 8 feet deep water (the bodyboard wasnt even floating me up). Ive had the board pop up and hit me in the face and leave a big knot in my chin for a while. no stings or bites. I went out when it was big and I didnt know any better (only surfed 3 months). I realized I would never do it again.

Hmmm, nothing over the top... helped out a couple of times as a result of hold downs, snapped boards and leashes in big surf with one time being extremely nervous and ashamed to say it but night mares for about 6 months... lots of fin slashes and a couple instances of kooks (mates of mine actually but kooks all the same  ) throwing their boards when your ridding a nice wave and having no where to go but over the top of them (the only proper dint that 6'5" ever had was from Marcus the f"#ken xxxxx  ).

A mate sitting about 3m from me charged by a little shark just on sun set at easties (East Corrimal), think he was worse off then me... about 6 of us out one night at easties when a killer whale started to get a bit to friendly... stuck out twice now with a yellow plane circling me, didn't actually see any men in the grey suits but little worried all the same sitting out there with legs on top of the board... two big dark shapes one looking bigger than my board circling me for about 5 minutes before coming up about a meter from me and scaring the sh#t out of me, turned out to be a mature dolphin with pup; stayed around playing for about 30minutes and was a great experience...

Probably a few others here and there but as I said nothing to abnormal...

Don't know how many times I've had blue bottles rapped around my arms and shoulders, they don't hurt that much, hate on shore breezes durring summer as you always get a heep... the wife got a bad one rapping 2 or 3 times around the top of her leg on valentines day about 4 yeas ago; the only one I have ever seen leave a decent scar. I think the couple of times I have torn the skin from my nipple ring is far more painful  and definatly board damage is more annoying.

The worst thing ever to happen to me whilst surfing .... " some larger than life Flesher sitting down with us (uninvited) for the whole evening at our camp fire singing F****** folk songs and playing a guitar ....BADLY !! The only reason we didnt drag him off was the kids seemed to like him but im guessing only because they could see how much he was annoying us !!!!
... my god being chewed by Jaws itself would have been less painfull

Lol, it hurt me good, I still have 3 big scars up my ankle. I remember when I was going to the beach, I was looking the other way right out of the car, and got hit in the head with a longboard. I guess the dude wasn't looking, but he swung it around and clocked me in the back of the head. Didn't hurt too bad, but it was funny. Hah, first time getting smacked by a board out of the water.

The place I surf at is super rocky and the rocks are pretty sharp so it seems like everytime I go out, I end up with a cut somewhere on my body. Other that the daily slashes to my feet, i've been hit on the head with a few boards and got plowed into by a 10ft foamy.

when i was 14 (had been surfing for about a year at that stage), came off onto dry coral in QLD - two punctures into my back & shredded my right foot. I was immobile for 5 weeks & had pain in both my foot & back for 6 years -- just started surfing again recently.

Went back in for a second session when a mate i hadn't seen for ages turned up whilst i was just getting changed. Of course this ended up with me leaving my keys on the passenger seat and having to smash the window to get back into my van.

I nearly took a longboard on the head again today, guy heading straight down the line towards me, looking direct at me so i knew hed seen me. Then as the section in front of him closed out (dead in front of where i was) instead of pulling out or going straight he pulled right up to the lip and bailed over the top kicking his board directly at me down with the wave. managed to get under my board and was lucky not to take a ding< i definatly heard the boards connect but couldnt see any damage to mine
i almost had to go back to the car to change my boardshorts
