Right, i have a problem.
I went surfing today and when I was finished i dug it in the sand, but the sand was 1 inch deep. So..my board hit concrete under the sand and the tail has cracked and the glassing was crushed.
Is this a DIY surf repair kit, or a bring to teh local shaper?
I wil get some photos soon.
Thanks, Dec

if its not that bad i would save some money and sun cure it, maybe. But if its really messed up, i would get it professionally repaired so it doesnt affect your performance

Tails can be a bugger to repair
A bit of suncure often isnt enough to do the job, and you need to layer on a few layers of fibreglass and resin. And then sand it til you're happy with the shape.
Not impossible, but a bit tricky - depends how bad the damage is, and how fussy you are about the board

I used to be a fan of DIY surfboard repairs, I still am for very minor & small holes & dings...but anything structural or near rails, noses or tails - why bugger up a perfectly good board - take it to a glasser/shaper.
They'll fix it properly, sand it properly & polish-off the result. Often you won't even know the board's been fixed afterwards, for the sake of a botch up job spend $30 & get it done properly.

Well...my camera is broken (something else that doesn't work) so I can't get any photos. sorry
ok, it's not something I feel I can sun cure because about and 1inch X about 1cm piece of glass has completely smashed off, so the firberglass has been exposed. Can you get a repair kit for this, or local shapers?
Has anyone else had this problem?
As for the concrete beach... I couldn't believe it..

glass and foam smashed off ?
if so, that would be tough on a corner, I would definately take it to a shop. If it's not that bad and you want to do it your self, give it some shots of compressed air to really blow the sand off. *DON'T!* use water to wash the sand off, it'll go straight to the foam, waterlog it, and then delam.

Thanks Tom..
right my nex problem is that I don't really have a local shaper.
I have a shop that sells boards (pop-outs mostly), so shal I just ask him?
I suppose I dont have choice?!

Were is the damage on the tail...edge, flat surface on top/bottom, do you ever put pressure on this part of the tail.
If it is not in a critical part of the tail; the area sounds small enough for some sun cure. Edges can be a little trickier, but not bad. Courners even worse.
If you do pressure that area of the tail; you'll probably want to reinforce the area with new glass.
I would hope anyone running a shop would know how to do repairs...

It's a simple process getting these fixed. Drowning described it nice.
I did something just as genius recently and took my board in to someone who had all the gear there easy and good to go. Took 20 mins. Easy!
Have you surfed online yet to find somone like, a local shaper or someone with a workshop? Get busy asking. Fone, smoke message..And DO fix it. You like your board right?
There isn't much to surfboards when you look into them. Yes they can damage easy if the injury isn't just superficial. And you're the best judge of that.
I had to travel a couple hours but I found some great surf at Gore Bay along the way!
$20 well spent for shore!!
Good luck kiddo!!

Keep us posted a!

wow.. anyone who's heard me out surfing thinks i'm from Phuket too.
That's all they hear me talking about.. specially when I'm doing my usual muck up a lot.
Do one trip.. or call might be better if you're stuck. And like ... totally get him to show you what what so you can fix your own. If he's not friendly act blond, get him to describe everything sloowwly and then go straight back home to set up your own ding repair business.
Phuket Phukup Phixup Industries... or something
