Wetsuit questions...

What thickness do you need for winter/spring... I'm guessing a 3/2 is a spring fall suit and a 5/4 or 4 if you're warm is good for winter? I need to get a wetsuit and have my Dad's bottom 5 but I think buying a 5 top will cost more than buying a whole 1 piece. I live in RI and surf in the summer (June~September) in boardshorts. I'm usually pretty warm compared to most people (IE never get cold when skiing) so should I get a 4/3 and be slightly cold on really cold days, and be hot in the late spring early fall? I can really only afford one suit for now, so I'm looking for the best coice to get me in the water comfortably most of the time.

Thanks,
Ben

I think a 5/4/3 winter wettie would be the best solution if you can only afford one suit. Id say thats the safest solution, atleast you know you can surf then whatever the weather and be well. How cold does it get with you in the winter? and will you want to surf all the time in the winter?

The water is 40 through the winter, and is still 40 now... I agree that I want something I can wear in cold and warmer water, and be hot in it. Would that be a 4/3, or a 5/4?

Thanks,
Ben

If it were me id get the 5/4mm wetsuit. I said 5/4/3 meaning 5mm with 4 and 3 in the arms and other areas (sorry bout confusion). If you only want to buy 1 wetsuit only and be able to surf all year around , it would have to be a 5mm wetsuit. It shouldnt make you too hot in summer/spring.

OK cool, sound like the info I was looking for . Hopefully the winter suits are on sale now considering it's "spring". What's a decent price for a cheap 5/4 suit and booties, mittens/gloves, and a hood?

You should use this website and have a look at the gear in the online shops. Its different prices in USA than UK so its best to browse on the net.
