Lately Ive been noticing that ive been stalling pretty bad. I have like no speed down the face. Im not sure what im doing wrong. I recently gained a little weight. I ride a 6'6 squash and Im 6' 190 lbs. Maybe its my foot placement?? The board is just a little too long for me to be on the pad all of the time, but maybe I should try to be on the pad more?? Suggestions guys??

I pop up. I think I can get into the wave pretty well, its just riding it sucks right now. I did some bodyboarding today and that was sick! I got the speed that I was looking for. I dont know man.

yeah its pretty damn fun. also it feels more safe in bigger waves because you got that floaty board attached to your arm and a pair of fins. it seems like you cant help but be in the right place in the wave the whole time. but you gotta dig your rails in so you dont slide out. its fun!

Just wait till you get good and airborn!
Personally for me it was being so close to the wave, going bigger, deeper, faster. I love the versitility of the sponge, You can ride prone, DK or stand up if your really good!

the answear might be longboarding, you couldnt sink a longboard even if you were like realy realy realy heavy.

I recently started surfing again with improvement! I think it was the switch to bodyboarding. It just changed the way I attack the face. I would suggest that anyone that is in a rut with their surfing to try bodyboarding for a while.

how about, as your going down the face do your bottom turn, turn up the wave and as you are heading to go off the wave, turn back down the face, up and down...the movement of your weight from your back foot when turning up the face of the wave your front foot when going down the face should cause you to gain speed. Just use gravity!

I don't think that it is weight... I did a quick conversion and 190lbs = 86kg; I am 6' and weigh any where between 85-100kg (185-220lbs) and can go ok on a 6'1" (though prefer over 9ft). Therefore a 6'6" at around the 2 1/2" thick mark would be quite fine for you... comes back on style and foot placement.

I think you have hit the nail on the head with the foot placement, who told you that you need to be always back on the tail? When turning etc. yes it is preferable but for planning along the wave face there is no need to be back there and are often better to step forward or transfer your weight and flatten the board out occasionally.

Booger, Esky Lid, Speed Hump what the F@#k
ahh no not that... no seriously, if you enjoy it why not, you could learn some valuable lessons...

Don't get suck ridding the same thing forever, experiment. Try anything and everything you can, even a bloody BOOGER if need be.
