When to try next level: Evolutive to Shortboard.

Hi all

Im learning to surf with a 7'2'' and would to know when do you think i should get a shortboard?

What objectives must i acomplish to know im ready to start with the shortboard??

Err, well I started with a shortboard, so there isnt any milestones or anything like that to accomplish in my opinion.

i started on a 7'4 gun and now ride a 6'10 short - i guess standing up is always a milestone.. ?

You should try the shortboard when you are sick of being dragged around by that big board. You'll enjoy being able to duckdive and also to be more agile in the wave, although ive seen some longboarders get some nice barrels.

My advice stick with the funboard ,you wanna be popping up and staying up 8 out of 10 times ,also be able to control your bottom turn or at least taking of on an angle and then being able to ride the board down the line ,also learn how to trim the board(keep in the power socket of the wave).
You"ll find you have a much more enjoyable time .

Just do what I do, i have a 7' and a 6'4" i always take both to the beach with me. Start out with the long board and catch some waves for a few hours then have a rest, grab the short board and head back out. This way you get the best of both worlds, and you will soon know if you are ready to just use a short board.

Just get yourself a shortboard
No need for objectives

I dont think theres any rules or laws telling you that you have to be so good on a longboard before buying a shortboard. If you want a shortboard then buy one. Its just a lot harder to learn the basics for beginners on a shortboard.
But if you really want to get good on a shortboard then get one i'd say. But I think longboards are just as good as shortboards and you can have just as much fun.
