Surfing Waves

My favourite local spot when its good. Just wondering, anyone surfed there low to mid tide? I went the other day at mid tide when it was 4-5ft messy and paddling was so hard.lol. Just wasnt getting anywhere, please tell me other people have found it hard when the tides out and its messy.

When its 4ft+ messy I dont think you can do much

Above 4 ft 'Gennith becomes the worst fleshin paddle in the world.

Plus when the banks are wrong you get the lovely brown foam!!

when its messy and above 4ft its almost impossible to paddle out

I once saw it breaking at about 8-10 and really clean, but the paddle must have been about 1/4 mile through lines and lines of whitewater.

We got back into the van and headed round to Horton where we had a killer session!

I saw it like that one very early morning, managed the paddle out (found a lovely rip) and then those 8-10ft waves landed on my head and held me down for what felt like a week :shock:

One more attempt (thanks Mr Rip), caught a wave, slid the tail out (whoops, possibly shouldnt have been out on the fish), got pummelled again, gave up and went and sat in the sun

Not my proudest surfing moment.... :wink:

Actually, while we're on the subject...

Maybe there is one useful thing I can contribute to the Llangennith conversation... :oops:

Straight in front of the car parks/camp site is about the worst place to try and paddle out. If you walk a very very long way ... er... south... towards the end of the bay, then the headland offers some protection and also some rips pull from the centre of the bay and can whip you out back in no time at all

not sure which is harder though - the paddle out, or the long walk :roll:

As an alternative to the long walk (although still not great) - you can head to Rhossilli head and walk down to the beach from the clifftop carpark.

never tried it, but I've seen plenty of people do it.
