Hi, good to see someone from Nottingham, think there might be three of us now on the forum

Long way to drive and Fistral gets really crowded at Summer, a bit closer is Croyde and that area, or head over to the East coast (scarborough).

Loads of places better than Fistral...

If you're going to make the drive to cornwall from Notts, I would recommend avoiding Fistral like the plague - it's one of the most overrated beaches in my opinion - not really because of the waves which can be awesome, but because everyone thinks that's the place you HAVE to go - so you get millions of people learning, super-crowded lineup, swimmers, bodyboarders etc - Nightmare.

I would start by heading to Perranporth, but if you can handle another hour's drive - get yourselves to Sennen Cove - I have never had a bad day there, the water is super clear and it picks up any swell going.

Cheers

I've only ever had one really good session at Fistral - flat all day then a phantom swell came in early evening just before I was about to start on the sauce. All the learners had taken their boards back in at 5pm, and there was only about ten in the line up on super clean waist-chest high waves :D

Every other time has been fighting with the learners, or not getting many waves due to aggressive locals

Still, its only 10 minutes from Watergate where Ive had some top sessions :D

I don't really rate Fistral that much because if there's a decent swell, then loads of other breaks get equally good waves and if it's on it's packed!!

Check out www.beachwizard.com or www.wannasurf.com they have reviews of breaks which can be helpful.

As for Crantock, one end is a river mouth, so there are some nasty rips sometimes.

Other than that I've heard it's got some good waves - it's just a nightmare driving down the single track roads to get there!!

ive never been any good at spelling but hey, at least im trying! :D polseth sounds kool, i surpose most beaches get crowded in peak season. even though im a torisit (as i dont live by the sea but travel down there as often as possible) it still gets totally annoying. i bet its horrible for the locals who have their waves intruded but people have got to start surfing some where i surpose! :D

Only surfed Crantock once. My logger mates took me. Ended up having a great session, catching lefts that ran into the rivermounth.
Mind you, had a couple of classic sessions at Fistral - though I didn't surf there often.

Nottingham eh? I lived there for a few years (having a career). At least once a month I would drive 5hrs on the friday, & 5hrs on the sunday to catch a few chilly sessions in the SW.
