How long did it take to stand on your surfboard?

Postby Crazzy_Nat » Sat Apr 24, 2004 5:47 am

How long did it take till you first stood up from when you started surfing?... I stood up after half an hour of mucking around (But that was on a longboard .. much easier).
On my 6'1 i have now i havn't stood up yet.. I have only been out 3 times but it's driving me crazzy... I just wanna get up!... but i have a phobia of standing up in 2 shallow because i broke my foot doin that .........

hey,
easiest way to stand up is once up push ur front foot up towards the front of your board more than you would normally put ur footing than it'll balance u out and u won't have that problem & than from there u can pretty much get the hang of it

My first time in the water ever was in a mushy day with a 6'3 very thin shortboard. I did nothing except for trying to breathe.

Next day in the water was with the board i have now. It is a 7'2 hybrid. Not the best to start, but here in grazil you dont get real minimalls ready at soters, you have to custom ask for one... this was the best could find very quick.

So first time i was out with this board the sea was great for surfing, no wind and 2 meter waves, so i was on the soup, cause i vouldnt begin with so big and fast waves... and dint stand up again.

Third day the waves here smaller and i could stand up for just 2 seconds. After that there were some very small wave days and i could stand up often...

I dont think my prolem is realy standing up, but actualy getting to the outside... But my board does float some, a shortboard is a lot harder to stand up a a lot easyer to get to the outside...

I stood up on the first wave I caught! (not including the one my brother helped me with).

I have never really had a problem standing up, but the wrong board can make all the difference. I had a real small board and couldn't catch many waves.

I now have a mini-mal and I not only catch waves but because I'm used to having to paddle like crazy - I can catch waves as early as the guys way out back on longboards!

I get much longer rides now and it's super fun!

Cheers

i stood up properly on my third time. was in 1-2ft waves though which makes it hard to stand without sinking the board pretty much straight away - i find anyway. I think the third time i went out it was closer to 3ft so I managed it much better.

I stood up first time on an 8ft 4 board, really easy and stable, then the first time I used a 6ft 8 I stood up first time, I find minimals really easy to ride/control but I am still trying to master a thin custom shortboard.
