hey im lizzy and im new to the site. i live in England Nottingham and i luv 2 surf. just wanted 2 introduce myself.

hi again i surf in east anglia all around the anglian coast usualy lowestoft . weres your surf spot?

my spot is with my best m8 in cornwall, crantock and fistral they have good waves.

that not your local break or do u only surf when go that way? went croyde devon in may excellent but long drive.

its the place me and my m8 like 2 surf no where local for me

yep every1 is suggesting the east coast never thought about it but sounds kewl.

y is the east coast not as good as every1 is making it out 2 be?

Cool as in its bloody freezing! heh but then so is where I surf :p

East coast gets its fair share of classic swells with generally less swell than the west coast but what swell does come down the north sea, in manycases it consistantly cleaner than the west coast which suffers from the westerles... (of course on the east coast this is onshore!)

so west coast is better?

ok..this is such a general overview and i'm leaving out alot.

Westcoast of UK - open to more swell as its facing the atlantic which has atleast 1-2 systems passing over its waters at any given time. however for the SW the track the systems that approach the UK on lines up predomitley to give SW and West winds (prevailing winds) So The swells produced in the atlantic come out of deeper waters, travel for further distances (making period increase which makes waves more powerful) so the west coasts gets more hight and more swell in general compaired to the east coast. But it is plagued by onshore winds because of the nature of the systems as they pass over the UK.

East coast of UK - Now the North sea is shallow and small and systems that pass over it or to the north of scottland general swell that runs down the length and because of the nature of the weater systems that pass over the UK and our prevaling winds being South-westerlies and westerlies this means they get off shore winds more often. Especially if its a system thats center has tracked over scotland or further north. As mention cause its a smaller sea there is less distance for the swell to travel and thus the wave period is less and swell hights are generally smaller. So less powerfuill waves compaire to the west coast.

However each coast is classic on its day with each break producing a different wave. Thats what its about!

If your interested read up on Swell prediction. or google it. Lots of sites out there explaing how it all works etc.

PW has got it spot on there. if im lookin at magic seaweed for the east coast ill be lookin for a swell of about 6-8 ft @ 7-9 seconds which will produce ok waves of about 4ft maybe less. a lot of the time that is with a north westerly which is offshore for south bay at scarborough and a few other spots i presume, most of which im not aware of. i have very rarely seen a period of over 10 seconds in the east coast and thats usually a long range forecast which can change. thats just my experience anyways. I usually get some waves when i use that method.
