Depends on what you are trying to clean off the surfboard.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

If cleaning wax, I put the board in the sun 10min theen scrape the wax off with a scraper on a wax comb or plastic scraper used for wall putty when fixing walls when painting. Used an old id card store membership thing (like a credit card) before. Put back in the sun a few minutes then wipe clean with a rag.

If its dirty, use a hose. Really dirty add dish soap.

Do I Need to Purchase Any Surfboard Cleaning Materials?
No, you don’t need to go out and purchase any special materials or cleaners. All you need is some warm water, a soft cloth, and some mild soap. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the surface of your board. [1]

Do I Need to Purchase Any Surfboard Cleaning Materials

How Often Should I Clean My Surfboard?
This is a great question and unfortunately, there is no one definitive answer. Depending on how often you surf and where you surf, you will need to clean your board more or less frequently. For example, if you live in Hawaii and surf every day in the ocean, you will need to clean your board much more often than someone who only surfs once a week in California.

There are a few general guidelines that can help you determine how often to clean your board. First, it is generally recommended that you clean your board at least once a month. This will help to prevent dirt and grime from building up on your board and making it harder to swim. Second, if you notice that your board is starting to look dull or faded, it is probably time for a cleaning.
Lastly, if you have any doubts about whether or not your board needs to be cleaned, it is always better to err on the side of caution and give it a good cleaning. Better safe than sorry

Sorry Yuyus this guide has some serious misinformation.
Paraffin wax is not used on the bottom of the surfboard to create a slick surface to make it go faster ,( not snow ski or snowboard)!!
Next, do not use coconut oil on your board or your body if you are going surfing all you will achieve is lots of sliding off.

Simple way, place board in sun
warm wax on the deck nowhere else
scrap off with old credit card (ensure it is old, less replacement cost than new ones) other scraper can be used.
There are chemical de waxers but some are quite nasty.
After a good scrape rinse with above warm water dry with soft cloth, then re wax ( top only)
The site you chose does not know the correct information !

Yuyus, I'm guessing you have never lived and surfed in Hawaii before. Locals go for years without cleaning their boards.

LOL, there’s the article that spawned the surf every day in the ocean line.

I am sure there are people living outside of Hawaii that surf everyday. The guy who set the world record for surfing consecutive days wasn't in Hawaii. If it is dirty wax that you want to clean off then it partly depends on where you surf (how clean the water is) and partly if you use a wetsuit and what kind or if you use sunscreen and what kind.. Some wet suits leave huge amounts of black stain in the wax. Also where you store you board when you aren't surfing and how careful you are to not allow sand or other materials to contact the wax when the wax is soft will affect how often you need to clean it. Basically however unless there is something in the wax that you need to remove there is no NEED to clean it. It's just cosmetics.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Then there is stuff other than wax on a surfboard which may be cleaned by other means
