I checked by surfing videos and it turned out I pull my tongue before popping up. Every other time. Is it only me? not sure whether it should be fixed. I didn't realize that I was doing that before I watched the videos

I don't see how surfing with your tongue out will affect your surfing other than if you get hit in the head you will risk a serious tongue injury. It's probably just makes you look funny. But perhaps you are doing it in response to something else which might affect your surfing. I wouldn't worry about it.

Im not a surf coach but I have an opinion on this.
“Fixing it” would entail a shift in focus, possibly induce tension (especially if addressed by using a mouthpiece to bite down on which is how ither sports address keeing the mouth closed), and any added tension will detract from what my goal is of a smooth and unconscious action.

I make a dumb face when I'm on the wave. Jaws dropped, raised eyebrow, mouth wide open. I envy those perfect surfers who look like they are smiling and having the best time of their life. While me looking like I'm just about to climax.

I wasn't that concerned. Just curious whether people do it as well. I think I got my answer. It was just very entertaining to see myself pulling my tongue out like a dog in a car window.

Generally speaking when I am surfing my mind is on the waves. Where are the waves, what are they doing, where do I need to be to catch them? When I am paddling for a wave my mind is quite similarly just thinking about if I am in the right place and if I am catching the wave and when do I popup? Perhaps you are similarly engaged in thoughts other than how funny you look when you paddle for a wave. I am pretty sure I do that at least once in a blue moon because I have noticed myself doing it once or twice but mostly I don't notice what I am doing
