Ive always wonder are deck grips worth getting. They seem useful and all, but I havent got an on my boards yet because I find it ok just using wax on the bottom part.

Is deck grip worth getting? and also how does it actually attach to your board?

thanks

usually you only use them on short boards because of the extreme maneauvers and aerials. you never put one on a longboard or fish. at least i dont. it's just preference

I got one on my funboard, it makes it easier to find the tail.

I'd say they are good for beginners as well. It makes it way easier to find the "right" spot for your foot. (assuming you put the traction pad on the right place)

To answer the second part of your question - they stick on with VERY strong glue, so if you get one - make sure you mark where you want them to go before you stick them down!!

I used to have a full deck grip on my old shortboard - it made it very clean - never had old wax stuck into the inside of the boardbag!!

The thing I hate -almost as much as slipping off is when you're barefoot and you pop up with the ball of your back foot on your leash - that hurts!! :(

...Unless you stick it on when its cold

Then it'll peel off just as the wave closes out on the tail of the board (putting lots of force on it) and just at the point you need it to kick out. I speak from experience...

If you're going to put a tailpad on, and you live in less than tropical climes, best to do it inside, and gently heat the tail of the board with a hairdrier first. Then leave it to stick properly in your nice warm bedroom (or bed even).

is it possible to remove deck grips? i'm thinking about buying a longboard that has them all over the board -- probably 10-15 individual pads. i'll try out the grips, but my guess is i'm going to prefer just using plain ol' wax. is there some way to remove the grips without harming the fiberglass?
