First board

Postby Lawren » Sun May 23, 2021 1:20 pm

Hi

My daughter is 15, 5’4 and slim build. She loves surfing but struggles abit with coordination. We go surfing a few times every year but we go body boarding a lot. She loves being in the sea and she loves surfing.
She can stand up on a foam board when we go Newquay She has been saving her money for a surf board for a few years and was supposed to finally buy one when Covid stopped everything Can you advise a board that will give her confidence and is easy to stand up and just is fun rather than skilful

I don’t want a foamie and was looking for 7-8ft under £500. I like the soft top ones

Examples of two I found? Help

All the right ingredients in how you are going about buying the board, quite a few here on the forum are happy with their Torqs , personally I am biased against the BICs no real reasons other than notlikingthelook!
I notice both are out of stock with that store, you might have to shop around, if you go to either website of the brand they may list retailers who have them in stock! :D

Thank you for your honest opinion I really appreciate it. I’m trying hard to understand the technology hahaha. I love the Roger Cooper surf board but know it’s not the right time.

For what reasons is it that you don't want / like a foamie ?

Foamie/Sponges/softboards inspire confidence as they are less apt to hurt the rider in a fall or bump to the head. They flex ( which might seem bad to a performance rider ), which is good for someone less coordinated. If you stand in the wrong place / a bit to the side on a hard board, it will buck you off. But on a soft board, the flex ( along with the boxy overly thick rails ) will be more forgiving.
