Hello everyone,
Recently I watched a sports program on TV, a surf program. When I see the athletes surfing on the surf, I really enjoy it and it makes me want to participate in the sport. After learning the story, friends and relatives told me to think carefully and they said that this sport is quite dangerous.
Thanks everyone.

Just going out your front door is dangerous. Crossing the road is but you can learn to do it safely.,
If you are watching a TV sports surfing program, the surfers are top level, a beginner will be paddling around in white water and or going to a surf school.

Depending on where you live ( I am assuming it is not a country with a beach culture where people have a fear of surf and lack of understandingly it’s nature.)
So a surf school would be a good option!

The ocean can be dangerous. First of all it’s water and you can drown even if you are in a completely calm waveless body of water. Then there are waves and currents and reef and rocky shoreline. Then there is your own stupidity and your surfboard. Then there are other surfers and their stupidity and their surfboards. Then there are sharks stingrays jellyfish and other critters that can harm you However if you’re a surfer then it’s all worth it

Yes it can be dangerous. The Ocean can be dangerous and there are several ways to drown. You can get hurt pretty badly by equipment or the environment (riffs etc). Depending where you are, animals and pollution need to be considered. There is probably no other sport where aggression of locals is as bad.

I had only one moment in my life where I thought I would die, and that was surfing (i am only a beginner). But I didn't. My only injury was a bad cut in my head from another surfers board. My injuries from Skiing where much, much worse.

But it IS fascinating. In my life, I have only done competitive swimming, tennis and golf. I do or did others sports as pasttime like Skiing, MTB, Yudo, Rowing, running etc. Surfing is physically by far the most demanding and I don't even know what good surfing feels like. But those days where the stars align, when your are in the ocean and don't feel completely stupid and the waves and the weather cooperate, are impossible to beat and that is why i stupidly still chase them as a landlocked surfer.
