Volume on Lost Speed Daemon 2?

Postby joaquin386 » Wed Feb 03, 2021 8:55 pm

Hi Forum

I bought a while ago a shortboard (Lost Speed Daemon 2) second hand which had the following dimensions. 6'4" - X 3/4 - 2 7/16. I want to find out the volume it has.
I still don't know what is the volumen 31L or 33L (according to https://nulltuul.com/surfboard-volume-calculator/) as the X might be 18 or 19 .
Not a big drama anyway but want to take it as a reference for my next board.

Picture of the board dimensions:

Do you know guys which one is it 18 or 19?

Thanks for the help.

The usual dims for that board at 6'4 are 19 3/4 and 2 1/2. Given that yours is a bit thicker than standard I cant imagine yours is 18 3/4 so almost certainly 19 3/4. But you can measure it yourself - just grab a tape measure.

However I doubt that volume calculator is accurate enough for you to determine whether its 31L or 33L. One board that is 19 3/4 wide might have that width for (say) 8 inches; and another might only be that wide at one specific spot; nose and tail thickness/foil can be very different between boards and the calculator cant take that into account very accurately.

Thanks for helping, that clarifies a bit the next board that I might take. I was hoping there was a spreadsheet with dims but seems I can find for the newer boards not for the SD2. Will try to ask Lost.

For the volume estimate, I would err on the side of 31 Liters since thats much more of a traditional shortboard shape, rather than a hybrid/fish.
You could run the formula manually if you think the board shape is a different percentage of a cube. They have the formula posted further down the page.

I run the calcs manually sometimes, if the board has unusual features like a beak nose, or Wide point forward with narrow tail, etc.
It's just converting the board dimensions into centimeters and then LxWxH and then multiply that by the specific percentage below.

Surfboard typically occupies approximately 54-58 percent out of the perfect cube.
54% – narrow surfboard
56% – average size surfboard
58% – round shaped surfboard

No, I was looking at a Pyzel Phantom depending on the volume of my SD2 I was going to go a bit more volume like 34,4L or 35,9L (a 6'1" or a 6'2") - I am 6'0 and 185lbs. I think I will go for the 6'2 35,9L since will be a lot of time without being able to surf.

Wanted a different board here in the UK (I am from the Canary Islands - Spain) since I will not go surfing everyday like back home - Maybe 1 week a month if not winter, so my fitness will lose and will need more volume just to keep up.
