just wondering has anyone ever travelled to croyde by train with their board?

I dont think it would be that bad with a shorty, but i have a 7 8" minimal and i dont even think it would fit in the train.....

do you have to pay extra or anything?

im trying to get down to croyde and had a lift sorted with my boyfriend.......but i found out the fleshin twat has been indulging in unhealthy hobbies with many other girls......so he is not exactly my first choice of transport if ya know what i mean.

Thats gonna be a bit of a mission... you have to get a train to Exeter and then go back on yourself to Barnstaple (adds an extra hour to the trip  ) from Barny the bus station is a 10 minute walk and the bus drivers are generally pretty grumpy old farts who won't let you take a board on. Try the old flirting card  if that doesn't work walk out of Barny towards Pottington (another 10 mins) and hitch from there. Probably won't have much luck at this time of year though unless the surf's really good. If that doesn't work I'm heading home in a couple of weeks and will be heading to the beach, drop me a line :)

I don't know if it's changed in recent years but taking a surfboard on a train used to cost you FULL FARE!

That means if you're ticket's going to cost you £80, you can add another £80 for your board!

I always wanted to take mine first class and demand the complimentary breakfast for it!!

The amusing this was if you wrapped it up and called it a package, you could put it in the guards car for free!!!

This was a little while ago so it might have changed!

Cheers

Actually, its funny that... :?

I used to drive from london to croyde in my little vauxhall corsa, and quickest I ever did it was in about 3 and 3/4 hours (4am, 90mph+ all the way), but it usually took about 4 and a bit hours.

Now I do it in a camper van - top speed 60mph (or 6mph uphill), and it takes... 4 hours and 30 minutes :D

And as Im the slowest thing on the road, I dont get held up so much by traffic, so it always take about 4 hours and 30 minutes (as long as the A303 is moving at all). 8)

And that 30-45 mins is more than made up for in the time it takes to load a car, unload the car, put up a tent etc etc :?
Compared to set off, turn up, surf :D

And, of course, its nice to wave at the other campers

yeah try a 3lt porsche that your board can only just fit in never mind sleep in. might get there quick ,120 cruising, but sleeping with the tramps in the bus shelter is not fun. Although not thought of bringing a tent, doh.
