Transition board

Hello,

I have been surfing for quite some time now at the Jersey Shore, I can do late drop off, bottom turn (after dropping in) and trim the face. I want to learn to turn and carve.

I'm 5'8 160lbs currently riding a NSP 6'4 x 20 7/8 x 2 9/16 39L, this board has been so easy to catch wave with (I wait for the last second to paddle and rarely miss a wave).

I'm looking to transition to a better board. There is a used FireWire Midas Machado surfboard 5'11 x 20 3/8 x 2 7/16 33.5L that I'm looking at but I'm worried that the drop in volume would make catching waves harder.

Any thoughts or recommendation on board size or model to look at that would be fun?
