What should I buy as my step down board?

Hi, I’ve recently been trying to get more into short boards. I ride logs a lot. I’ve been using my friends 6’10 board to start off with. It’s very thick, like 50 liters. I think I’m ready to go smaller, I just don’t know how small. I want something faster and something that I can move around better on a wave. How short should I go? What brand should I look at? What boards should I be looking at?

So you want to go short...........how capable are you? and what can you do in your surfing now? If you cannot ride backhand and forehand an with capable turns , a shorter board is not going to give you skills you don't have it will harder to catch waves, .

I can turn and do some small snaps on my 6’10. I’m a 16 year old girl. 5’0 and 115 lbs. I just want a board that can work well in small waves and has more mobility.

Then get a modern retro Fish and you can blow past them Loggers.

Honestly, if you step down in increments you will till enjoy catching waves while getting better, my beginners from big to two small and experience a high amount of frustration. I actually did the same thing went from 8ft to 7'2 to 6'10, my 6'10 was 6'10 x 20 x 2/ 3/4 thruster, like a semigun but little thicker and wider, about 42 liters. After that I went down to 6'4 x 19 3/4 x 2 5/8 thurster, it had plenty of float and I did not experience the wobbles you get when you are not used, for example, a 6'0 board as your transition down. I used that for about 2 years then went down to 6'1, you will eventually go down to 5'10 but as your 3rd or 4th stepdown board.
