Okay just a time killer but heard something like this about famous people and putting out a list of 5 famous people you have supposedly met and only one isn't true. Well other than surfers there isn't 5 people for me so I thought I might try this here so here is a list of 5 famous surfers who I may have met and you have to guess the one I didn't meet. For many of you maybe the other way you could put the one person you met with 4 you didn't anyway see how it goes
1) Duke Kahanamoku
2) Gerry Lopez
3) Laird Hamilton
4) Bethany Hamilton
5) Larry Bertleman
I will reveal the answer in a week or so but add you own version and let me guess at it too

You know there have been a bunch of famous surfers from Kauai. One of them Max Mederios was a pro who I think won the pipe , Kaipo Jaquias who I think won the Triple crown, Andy Irons who was multiple world champion and his brother Bruce, Sebastian Zeitz pro tour surfer, Alana Blanchard, Tatiana Weston-Web and Malia Manuel all female pro surfers oh yeah and Keala Kennely female big wave charger who I actually met but the rest of the above I never met or don't recall if I did. Oh yeah and Sharon Weber used to be famous female surfer resides here, and I know her and met Jerrico Poppler through her. Margo Oberg also famous female surfer lives here but I haven't met her but ran into her surfing long ago.

I have not only met but surfed with (and been called onto waves by) world champion Pam Burridge on several occasions. Not that she knows my name or would recognise me out of the water, but I think that makes me more or less one of her best friends :yearght:

I've shaken Tom Carroll's hand. Ok, it was at a publicity event for a movie he was in but, still, there was a bond.

I was at a pub when both Tyler and Owen Wright walked in and sat down sort of near me. Well, in the same room but if it hadnt been for my presence I'm sure they would have gone somewhere else, had there been anywhere else in that town. (I didnt actually recognise them but overheard someone telling his mate who they were)

I'm friends with someone who is friends with Connor O’Leary's dad.

I've had coffee with Jaffa, who is perhaps the most famous of anyone I've listed.

My brother used to work with Tatiana Weston-Web's dad. I used to surf with Malia Manuel's dad and catch him once in a while at the beach. I might have been 30 yards away from Alana Blanchard at the beach one day, size seemed right, hair seemed right, baby with her right age but she was sitting down back to me and I didn't have my glasses on anyway. Long ago at Hanalei I probably surfed with 2 pros as they were clearly much better at surfing than the regulars (who were pretty good) and sharing these fast breaking waves with the two of them riding on the same wave. I never heard who they were. The Ho's that I met were from the Don Ho side of the family. I did meet pro surfer Booby Jones and know local legends Titus Kinimaka and Byron Wong.

Well looks like no one wants to play this game so I am just going to say I never met Gerry Lopez (that I can recall) even though he has spent a good deal of time on Kauai. Duke I met long ago when I was with my family traveling to Kauai from Oahu 1957 or so. Duke was like the greeter at Waikiki and we ran into him down there. I remember he scared me because he looked very different from anyone I had ever seen before. His skin was like wrinkly leather and he had huge hands. I did get up the nerve to shake his hand LOL I was such a chicken back then. I met Bethany and Laird from my work and Larry Bertleman I ran into surfing at Hanalei. He had lost his "sting" board (no leashes) which I had never seen before and I was checking it out when he came bodysurfing up to me. He was so cool, he said "Yeah that's the sting by Ben Aipa" and I looked up to see him and I responded "You're you're....you're........" He said "Yeah that's right" with a big grin and went on to tell me about the board. One day I hope to meet some of you....who knows?
