Surfing Waves

It's now the full moon and I was thinking that is a good idea to go surfing with the light of the moon... and then I realize that the sharks are more active and eat during the night... so I'm not so sure that is it a great idea to go in the water at shark lunch time...
I'm actually in Waikiki, south shore of Oahu. Someone know something about the night life of the sharks in this region?

I have heard the same. I don't really think it is a big issue, but after seeing the blod red sun drown in the ocean I usually paddle in. The only full moon water SPORTS activity I have done is full moon kiteboarding...where I don't have to sit in the water. I have never seen a shark.

Which break do you usually surf?

you need to look at the history of shark attacks in the area, then make the decision from that, your more likely to be attacked surfing at dawn and sunset than at night becuse these are the times sharks tend to be most activly feeding if theres been no shark attacks in the last few years i would go for it nice way to beat the croweds

Just dont worry about it. Its a lot of fun to surf at night. Ive done it quite a few times. My friends that surf meacoms pier got it down though, they go and rent some big lights and light it up. Heres a video...

Thanks for the info! I'll be there in waikiki & the N shore starting next week and as a beginner surfer, sharks are my biggest fear. I saw Jaws when I was way too young! I'm learning to surf in NJ, Long Beach Island & have seen many sharks, but all small & I try not to think about it.
***Anyone know of a place that does great female boards in Oahu??
