Broken board - advice needed!

Postby mreich » Sun Jun 14, 2020 10:49 pm

Nosedived yesterday, and the tip of my board hit a rock (I think) and snapped. Got a repair quote for $125, and I’m trying to decide if it’s worth fixing.

Any thoughts? I’ve heard that repairs can make the board heavier and mess up the flex, so not sure if I should just leave it.

That’s a tough question. I guess I depends on how much you paid for the board and how sensitive you are to changes in boards. It’s possible you might find it acceptable after fixing.....or not. It might be worth something after fixing but it’s just trash if not fixed.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

So there's a break on the bottom near the nose and 2nd break across the deck ?

If that blue color is the deck, it looks like it's been repaired before.

Repairs do make the board heavier, but if you are riding a longboard or anything other than a potato chip who cares, you get a ridable board for a fraction of the cost of a new one and your surfing will hardly know the difference, except for maybe your arm as you carry it. .

Get it fixed, keep it out of the dump.

Makes sense. I just got it used from a friend for $150. Top has been repainted, and the pictures are of the same break, straight across the nose.

Yeah so if you can get another similar board for $150 it might not be worth $125 to fix that board but still if you like that board it's still cheaper than $150 and it keeps it out of the landfill.

I think I'd probably leave it. That board (at least the top side) looks extremely well used already. Make it into a stylish toilet seat or something.
