Surfboard and cargo box on same roof rack?

I have enough cross bar space for both side by side ( cross bar wider than car roof on either end by 8 inches ) but worried about weight distribution issues and side overhang
If I had a short board could feasibly strap on top but it’s a wavestorm and it would seem unruly as it’s longer than the box
A vertical surfboard rack doesn’t seem to exist like they do for kayaks.
Any ideas?
