Surfing Waves

Hey, just recently got into surfing and live in New England so I’m looking to buy a board for waves around here, but from what it seems like is most people around here surf with boards that are 8’5 and over but I think I like using smaller boards so I found a 5’9 that’s 30L but should I just get a long board or will the 5’9 work for the waves around here? Thanks

With the minimum amount of time that you have been surfing, how did you come to the conclusion that you think you like smaller boards ?

By the way, how tall are you ?
