Surfing Heroes: Humboldt County, California

Way up north, there is a regional classic sand bar break with lefts and rights. Waves are fast and powerful. This beach is about 80 miles south of the Oregon border. In this region, Humboldt County, California, you examine waves at many breaks to verify the waves are small enough to surf! Water is always cold. Rarely more than 10C (50F). Local surfers are very strong and warm blooded.

Can confirm. Sue and I lived in McKinleyville when we were first married and this was the standard wetsuit. When it's cold everyday you get used to it. Now I need a 5/4 with booties!

sistas and bruddahs: BoMan reports Mrs. BoMan and he lived in McKinleyville when first married. This town is just a stone's throw south from Trinidad Beach. So, he confirms the sea is cold up there. The wave energy and current strength should be experienced. I suspect those of you in that have surfed near Tasmania will appreciate this.
