Dafaq is this about? Having trouble googling it because I keep coming up with those huge hydrofoils. It says it's a longboard fin with foil lift

There are always weird to insane fin designs and people obsessed with Reynolds Numbers or whatever. Do they work - maybe. But the fact that stock fin designs prevail might be one answer (or might just suggest surfers are actually very conservative)

But what is it supposed to do?

That is a STRATA fin made in Australia late 70’/ early 80’s. Is that yours ?

"I designed the Strata Fin in 1982 and licensed it to Multi-Fin Systems.
I think it hit the market in 1983."

Vintage design by Multi Fin Systems Australia in 1980 for Slalom Windsurfing. Today's use is for Noseriding on mid range Longboards in the Surfing Community. This fin with it's Weber Hatchet like shape Nose ride's mushy waves great with easy quick turning due to it's narrow base. The structure of this fin is of High grade Lexan for durability which also makes for a extra clear attractive look. included screw can be secures with a dime, no screwdriver needed.
