Surfing Waves

Check out what I got a few weeks ago...

Some back story, I'm a beginner still and have been surfing an 8'6 Torq popout for two years. I got a chance to purchase a 7' McTavish Sumo in April which is a great glass intermediate board with decent volume, but I just couldn't catch enough waves with it yet.

So I came across this gorgeous 9'2 board by a local shaper (Paul Surf) and amazingly, was able to trade the 7' + $250 for it. I'm really enjoying it - lots of volume but much narrower and smoother than my Torq. Surprisingly, it's not too bulky to control! For what it's worth, I found that fin a bit too big so went down to a gorgeous purple True Ames 9.5" 4c and am happy with it now. Not a lot of rocker and the rails aren't the 50/50 type, so it's definitely interesting... wondering if I can eventually cross step on it?

Nice! You should absolutely be able to get to the nose on that board! Congrats, it’s a Beaty!

for now I hung it on my wall next to my 6'7 tube shooter that I'll never be able to ride

I might give it to a friend who has an 11' glider and is much heavier than me (he's 6', 175lbs, I'm 5'2", 115lbs)

That is gorgeous. One of my boards is 1/3 purple, it’s a great colour.

Is that a balsa board? I imagine I see wood grain.

I think it looks like wood grain too but my friend confirmed it’s definitely foam and not balsa (dunno)

That is a great board and I got to spend 20-30 mins on it catching a couple of waves. It doesn't have much rocker so I don't know how well it will do on bigger waves. However with the length, you might be able to catch it before it gets too steep.

Definitely wouldn't mind surfing it again!!

The board is gorgeous though. I love the finish. Pretty sure the original was a nose walking fin. Let's hear the field report
