Beach Parking Charges may rise - UK

Postby sinistapenguin » Thu Oct 06, 2005 10:53 am

Hi All

Don't know if anyone else in the UK heard this on Radio 1 last night - but some big Tourism boss in this country suggested that people should be charged to use the beaches in the UK or that parking charges should go up so that services/facilities can be improved.

Just thought I'd mention it and throw it open to debate!

That's a laugh. How about providing some.
Only a tiny percentage of beaches in the UK even have any - who's local surf beach in the UK provides anything as simple as a post surf shower.
Charged to use the beaches??? whatever next?

I read that story in the paper... I think the full-story went something like -

Council member: 'Welcome to the bournemouth council meeting'

Grubby money-obsessed corrupt council official: 'I've got a brilliant new wheeze! Let's charge people to use the beach! 100,000 people use the beach on a warm day, so if we charge each of them three pounds, we'll be rich!'

Council member: 'The contribution of grumpy money-obsessed council official has been noted, and he can basically flesh right off. So, onto any other business?'

Only surfed once at Puts this year, and that was after it dropped back to the merely extortionate £4.50 again) :?

Um, question...does the parking charge combine with a time limit as well???
If it was just a charge that's not so bad...the money gained in most places is directed to the city coffers to provide cold-water showers for Von Chavs to vandalise, toilets for freaky old men to hang out in, changing rooms for young boys to date rape their girlfriends at night, and nasty Bubonic-Plague infected BBQ's for you all to not use. Not to mention the rubbish bins for drug-users to throw their HIV infected needles at (not in).
Good Planning eh???
The idealised view of a public beach in the eyes of most officals is quite different from the sometimes grim reality as seen by many of us dawn patrollers....

Now, if the parking charge is combined with a time limit...this is far worse. What they're attempting to do is keep the carpark circulating, keeping parks freed-up for new arrivals throughout the day. Like most city shopping centers..

So, which is it? Curious...

saunton is extortionate nowadays, get a season ticket or the bus! although i must say i do love the showers and the toilets are awesoem and genuinely clean most of the time! but automatic sinks just dont register my hands, they never start working when i put my hands under them... maybe this is like 'the others' or something, perhaps i'm a ghost....

Trouble is with the likes of Saunton etc.. the car parks are privately owned and thus they can charge what they want :(
