Anyone here surf in the UK?

So I am soon to be moving from Sunny Durban South Africa 5 minutes from the beach where I can surf around 4-5 times a week all year round to Leeds UK, which of course is at least two hours from any beach and cold
I guess I have to look forward to going from baggies and sunshine to a full wetsuit, and even more depressing going from pretty decent constant waves to mush maybe once or twice a month
Not a happy chappy.
But I started to do a little research and Saltburn and a few spots on the North East look to have potential, anyone surf these spot regally? I know Cornwall is the best spot but thats a long drive.
Someone cheer me up and say its good please :D

Well, I live in Huddersfield near Leeds right now so I'd be happy to join you on some surf trips.

You're right that the east coast is inconsistent. It can have fairly long periods of nothing or rubbish, but it does get good sometimes too. I haven't been up to Saltburn, but have surfed Scarborough a fair amount and it can have nice waves. There are also some genuinely good quality reefs and points up the east coast but they are equally inconsistent and I'm not sure how busy they get.

Temperature-wise, nothing like Durban sadly. I managed in February in a 4/3 with boots/gloves/hood and was totally fine. If your wetsuit is of the more leaky variety then I'd suggest a 5mm for winter when the best waves are most likely.

Hey Lebowski, nice to hear from someone else in Yorkshire.
I am from Leeds originally but moved to Durban 5 years ago but now time to come home :(
Well that report has made me a little more optimistic cheers, I'll certainly give you a shout when I am back and hopefully get a surf in.
Also cheers for the wetsuit recommendation, will certainly have to invest in one of those.
