Carver - C7 or CX trucks?

Postby ConcreteVitamin » Sun Aug 11, 2019 4:06 pm

My girlfriend got me a 31" Resin + C7 trucks and I've been loving it :D

Now, I want to get her a Carver in return. Eyeing 29.5" Sea Tiger. Question: Should I get her the C7 or CX trucks? Anyone has extensive experience with both trucks?

Her background: very new to skateboarding/surfing, has experience with snowboarding, just want to learn & have fun on her Carver (mostly just for the commute)

What's conflicting my decision is the webpage of Sea Tiger recommends CX, but C7 is supposed to feel "surfier" (which sounds like "more fun").

C7 trucks give the single fin, longboard feel to skating. It' great for trimming smooth, rail-to-rail turns. The CX trucks skate more like a thruster with sharper, "carve like" turns. Here's more info...

I'm a longboarder who likes slaloming hills so C7 is my choice. This might also be the better option for commuting. If you''ll be riding in a smaller space or a skatepark and like progressive moves then I'd go with CX. Have fun!.

Thanks BoMan.

Which truck is more "stable"? I figure I should get her a safer one.

I have both the C7 and CX carvers. If she wants to ollie to get over a curb on her commute, then go with the CX. Also for simplicity the CX is better, less noise and cheaper. That said, the C7 better replicates the flow and rail to rail transfer of true surfing.

On the contrary, I would get the CX, since you already have the C7. I had the C7 first and got the CX later, I use them both.

This guy is using a CX and it's working fine for a tight slanted driveway.

Regarding what type of best trucks you choose, whether reversed or standard kingpin, it is recommended that you select a reversed kingpin for cruising. You may also select a standard kingpin if you want to do more tricks than cruising on your skateboard.
You must also consider the board trucks and wheels. These components must complement one another in size before you put them on a skateboard.

This might be helpful. I have three carvers, two with cx and one with c7 trucks and everything said here is correct. However I tried a smootstar after watching a guy in the bowl draw lines I couldn't keep up with and found it even more unstable in a good surfing flow kind of way and could see the more radical line possibilities. Anyway, that piqued my interest and I found this last week and found it to be an interesting read:
