I was at Pipes a couple of weeks ago, counted 32 surfers at one peak.

It does seem to be getting overcrowded ,and some people dont seem to have any manners anymore , surfing at bondi or maroubra is a complete waste of time unless the waves are a decent heigt otherwise everyone who has a board is out , including cripple boarders and it just gets far to dangerous. I now either go very early or late after work.As the last thing I want to do is hurt someone with a board in the head. Touch wood Ive only ever had one complete tosser drop in on my wave and nearly kill me with his board, needless to say I had some stern words with him on manners.

on nice long beachs i dont find it a problem becuse 90% of the time it only takes a 20 min walk down the beach to avoid the croweds becuse people are lazy so even on the busyest of summer days i can normaly find a peak to my self
but i guess in places like OZ and socal its alot worse than here in the uk

At my local spot it is always crowded, I do often try a little harder to find a quieter beach .. hard to find these days though.

Ummm... I hate to admit, but I don't help - I'm a newbie, and I don't understand the whole 'snake' thing if that's the right term.
When I surfed at Saunton, most people where just surfing straight in, because so many people were going for the same waves...
Mind you I don't know how to surf across a wave - as I said I'm new to it.

Yup...Phil has it nailed there....take a 5 minute stroll down the beach if you can...we do that on the Gower here.....especially Llangennith....there's plenty of room if you can be arsed to carry your board for a while.....most cant and head straight out ahead!!!....numpties!!!!...
