Depends, there are a few.
I'm a bit of a Curren fan myself, but then that's the era I got into surfing!
You can't discount Kelly Slater when it comes to surfing legends, the guy can cut it 20 ft and tear up the small stuff too. You can discount his poor acting choices if you've seen his cameo on Baywatch, but one time he was editing surfer magazine and decided he wanted to interview a 19 yr old Bikini model from one of their ads, they tracked her down, but when they phoned her he had laryngitis and couldn't speak, the guy still had a date with her by the end of the interview. You've GOTTA respect that!!
Laird Hamilton, I don't really like his surfing style, but you've got admit the guy's got balls of steel and he's pushing the boundaries constantly.
Old Guys/ Gals on longboards. I was out in Sennen Cove a week ago and there were some old time longboarders out, they ripped and made it look so laid back. These guys inspire me that I've got a lot of surfing to come!!
When I was out that weekend, I saw a whole family paddle out together. Dad on a longboard, Mum on a mini-mal, son on a shortboard and 8 yr old (ish) daughter just starting on a foamy. That's what I want to be!! (the Dad that is - not the 8 yr old girl before anyone comments - k mac/ drowning!!)
I have respect for anyone who gives it a go.
