:D

That'll be not quite 'out back' enough then?

Happens to everyone occasionally
(or quite often to some people, myself included)

Is it possible to duck dive a 7'10 mini-mal?
Well, technically it is, but unless you can completely submerge the board (try this in flat water!) then you'll really struggle :?

I know I cant properly duck my 7'4 and that'll be a lot easier than your mal.

Also, from your description Im guessing you were trying to duck dive when you weren't really moving? If so, yeah, you'll drown

You need, particularly on a big board, some momentum towards the wave as you duck underneath it.

When you duckdive, paddle hard towards the wave to generate momentum. Then submerge the nose of your board and push down on the tail with your foot.

volume

hey mate
getting smashed is never as bad as u think at the time, but ive been scared by big sets a few times. i had a 9'2 mal, and a 7'10 minimal that i could duck dive no problem. you need to get up your speed and then get towards the nose a fraction to get it down and then press down with your foot on the tail as the wave goes over, then pull up on the front to come up the other side. i just bought a 9'4 and it has heaps more volume and i cant get it even 3 inches under. i just get smashed by the big sets!!

I went surfing a couple of days ago when the waves were breaking at about 6ft, after a while of surfing you get a bit tired and need to catch your breath, well when i did i didnt notice that infront of me this huge waves was brewing,it got bigger and bigger and as it came infront of me all I could do was say "xxxxx" and brace myself. It completely battered me for ages, board hit me a few times, water up my nose. Really bad, Its scary when its that big
