Hi all,

I wrote some thoughts :blah: about wavepools in my blog.
If you feel like, have a look. :)

I thought perhaps you or others might be interested in this article about wave pools https://www.surfline.com/surf-news/wavepool-roundup-every-manmade-surf-spot-open-construction-planned/16401

I think it would be cool if they created another kind of wave that was wedgy, chaotic, and A-frame-like (sort of a Newport Beach Wedge simulator) that catered to body surfers and body boarders. I think it would be a welcome contrast to the point break perfection simulator most of the wavepools are like now.

I have been thinking about this and I guess it is possible but would require more powerful wave generating apparatus than what they currently have because the wave would need to be generated in deeper water which then becomes suddenly shallow. There is also concern for injuries from the bottom while it should be better than hitting a reef it will be worse than hitting sand like the Wedge. Perhaps that is something that could be developed, a soft bottom for the wave pool. The wave in Texas seems chaotic but it doesn't change from day to day so not really but it is made to have sections. I guess another concern for a wedgy type wave would be damage to the bottom from the breaking wave. Anyway I am sure they cold do it just maybe not in a profitable manner

I don't know. I was thinking along the lines of a wave refraction room. You channel a part of your main point break wave into what I call the death boogie 5000 room. In this room the water from the sectioned off main wave is channeled in such a way that large wedge-like waves are generated from bouncing off the walls. Fun, mayhem, and multiple injuries ensue. You could also design a part of your main wave pool to be very deep with a big bump under the water where on each side of the bump you have deep water. Waves travel across the pool, get clipped by the raised bump, and then plunge into the deep pool on the other side of the bump. I got big plans for my wave pool :D
