Surfing Waves

Don't get me wrong I love surfing but I wanna hear what you people hate about it?

Hate is a strong word. I don't like crowds or getting dropped in on, or snakes or nasty locals, but it's all part of the scene and I am living & loving the lifestyle.

I hate Kooks on short boards.

I'm wondering where this thread idea came from Wilbaaa. What are you pissed about?

I hate it when the lineup is not ten people spaced one hundred feet from each other.

I don't like it when people lineup inside of me. It is only because I don't want to run them over and their presence takes me out of my normal frame of mind which makes it more likely I will run them over or wipeout in front of them. Long ago I was confident enough to zig and zag around everyone in the lineup but these days I might be good enough to do that only actually having them there throws me off so I fall down more often in those situations.

Personally not much seems to piss me off, sometimes when I get dropped in or when people kinda chill in the way but I normally dont complain since I can usually get around them.

I hate the fact I have to work.

The thing that winds me up the most is when it's busy so I look for a less busy peak stand there watch it for 5 or 10 minutes then paddle out. It might not be as good or as regular as the other peaks but less busy means more for me.
But as soon as you paddle out you can feel the eyes on you then after you catch a wave 1 or 2 get closer catch a second and by the time you get back out there is a stream of sheep all flicking to where I am.

And also as oggy said work! It's meant I've missed 3 cracking days this week!!!!!

No way.
1) The sit in the pit unable to move out of the way as I'm dropping down.
2) They paddle in front trying to scratch for the shoulder as I'm coming down the line and throw their board in my path to save themselves.
3) I have to spend my time rescuing them instead of actually surfing.

Other surfers

Surf cams. They always seem to show you what you’re about to miss lol.

Not being able to takeoff in the perfect spot because of the snake who tries to get inside position by putting himself in the spot where he is no longer in position to go right, but is instead lined up to go left and, of course, he goes right so he can have priority.

I really try hard not to get pissed off in the water but here are some things that erk me:

1.
I'll second the newbies on short boards.

The guy who calls "party wave" for every wave just so he can also catch it lol. The occasional party wave is fun and all good, but not everyone always wants a party wave!

When newbies have no knowledge of surf etiquette. I'm also a new surfer and try super hard to follow the etiquette rules so when I see a newbie in the water breaking all the rules, it really bugs me! Once a newbie on a short board dropped in on me, didn't make the wave, and her pointy board goes flying at me! I had to jump over it and off my board to avoid getting hit. After the wave I asked if she realized she had dropped in on me... of course she didn't know what that meant so when I tried to explain it she told me that if I wanted to go left I should surf somewhere else because she would be surfing straight to the beach! I really wish that the shops that rent boards and equipment to these people would give them a handout on the rules of the lineup!

Why is it always the guy "crashing the party" not "throwing the party" that calls out party wave ??

When you encounter a category 5 kook in the water, it's best just to treat them like a moving hazard--not unlike the floating tree stump I pulled out of a lineup one day. You have to be wary of them.
