Surfing Waves

Does anyone recommend getting a used wetsuit online? or should I really try it on before I buy it. Also, what kind should I get if i'm going to be surfing rhode island untill mid november?

PS I get cold easily!!! I can't even go in for that long in the summer!

Online - no no no! Different makes vary hugely - my RipCurl is a medium... I cant even get an O'neills medium on!

Second hand - no no no! Wetsuits really dont last that long, and a secondhand one will likely fall apart almost immediately
And other people's p*ss is just gross...

Yep agree on never get second hand wetty.

But not so sure regards to online purchase of wetty - if you're going for an 'elasto' type wetty then size is less of an issue as they fit odd shaped people better cos they stretch more, and so a normal shaped person will be an even better fit etc. But be wary as, for instance O'neill sizes seem to be slightly larger than Rip Curl so ideally try 1 of each brand to get a rough guide to their fit and then go online cos its usually cheaper.
I had a Rip Curl elasto medium which was a perfect fit but the seams went (twice ) so I went for O'neill Psycho2 medium cos the seams looked better (they were but still room for improvent imo) and the O'neill didn't fit as well cos it was slightly big but not too bad so as not to get one. Incidently I think I might get an Excel next.

i had always bought my wetsuits from the store, but recently i found one online that i really wanted, so i gave it a shot. should be here in the next couple of days, ill tell you how it goes. i think you might be alright if it has a good return policy, but dont go with a used.

In general I would recommend snugg mini zip titan custom made for perfect fit and warmth. But at £275 (approx.US$500) it would become way too expensive for you to get it with the delivery charge and not to forget the duty and tax you have to pay when it gets to you.

The other wetsuit you might want to look into (more easily obtainable for you and cost around US$350) is Hotline. A surfshop owner in England who gave hotline firefly GT hooded (5:4) a try during February said he was sweating even with the hood down.

So think about what your budget would be first.

If the budget is tight, what you can do is, go to surfshops and try different brands just to get the feel of their sizes. Once you get an idea what sizes you wear for each different brands then find the last season style wetsuits. They usually comes down in price by up to 50% (I know this because I managed to get hold of brand new o'neill psycho II at £99 instead of the RRP £200 because the shop wants to get ridd of their stock). You may not be wearing the latest style but your wetsuit will be brand new and at a very affordable price.

If push comes to shaft and you can only afford second hand westuit for now, then make sure you disinfect the suit before using it. Rip Curl Piss Off would do the job.

That is a good store, with great choices and price. Do you by any chance know if they ship to Europe? ha!

I bought the Rip Curl Ultimate Elasto SlickSkin (the one Bosley has on in Charlies Angel's 2) from a bankrupt stock liquidators in Birmingham (UK) for £75 (that's about $123US)

They retail for about £220 in the UK.

I also got my wife a suit for £35!!

I wouldn't buy a suit I couldn't try first. I would find out the make and size online then go to a shop and try it on!!

I have had 2 second hand suits in my time (when cash was tight) and they were both fine!
