board suggestion for beginner moving to nicaragua

moving to nicaragua and want to buy a board that will be good to learn on as well as grow into. have surfed maybe 10 times, on an 8' board and want something that wont be obselete after a month or two.

someone suggested 7'4" by 20.5" by 2 5/8". thoughts? other suggestions? epoxy v fibre?
