Hey,im a 13 year old boy and i live in washington. im about 5'8 and weigh about 110. I recently went to Hawaii this summer and just learned to surf. i got up every time (even my first try) and never fell of until i wanted to. I have been wanting to buy a surfboard that i can turn sharp and have more speed. I want to buy a shortboard but thinking its a waste of my money since im a newbie, any advice?

Mate at your age, size and weight a short board would be fine espesh if you already have the basics down. Maybe get one around the 6' 6'' to 6' 10" range just to give you that bit more of a stable base.
And don't be discouraged when you kook it and fall off initially especially if you've only ridden longer boards so far. Long boards are great to learn on but the transition to a shorty is very different. You'll probably find the first hard turn you do on a shorty will find you doin a 360 cause they're so much more manouverable.
Whatever you choose to do "Go for it" you can't ask for a better lifestyle.
Cheers
