I'm pretty sure I've been in water below 10 degrees Celsius in my 4/3mm wetsuit for longer than one hour without any issues.

"They found this could improve survivability in water colder than 10 degrees Celsius, raising it from less than one hour to two or three hours."

FYI, Dailymail is trash news from UK and take everything with a huge pinch of salt.

But also perhaps the research was that you stay in a 4/3 wetsuit without moving at all.

To be fair, surfers have most of their body out of water for most of the time; as opposed to divers. And surfers tend to move about a bit faster/harder - divers obviously can but heavy breathing uses up a lot of air

Seems like an interesting solution
