Dreams about surfing

Postby oldmansurfer » Fri Aug 10, 2018 5:32 pm

How many of you dream about surfing? I rarely do but just last night I had a dream about a single wave. I was surfing close to the shoreline with people watching on the shoreline and on my 8 foot funboard going left. I did some kooky off balance turns and then got caught in the top of the wave with the board pointing down the line and the wave broke under me and I did this maneuver that I have only done on my longboard so far where I stall at the top of the wave and it breaks under me pulling the nose of the board down and I just go along with it. It's like an automatic maneuver. Anyway I did all this kooky stuff and maybe one good thing but didn't fall down and the people on the beach were only mentioning that stall to re-entry/floater whatever it is trick that I discovered.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

They say there is a reason why you dream but perhaps that reason is difficult to define. I guess this has to do with my current state of surfing in front of the beginners in the surf school and the idea that it seems to me that if you don't fall down then people often assume you can surf. There have been a few instances where the waves were too small and weak for me to really do much with my 8 foot board but I did as much as I could which was kind of off balance turns because I am really forcing them but because the waves are small it is easy to not fall down.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Before I talk about my dream i'll tell you guys some background info. I'm currently on a surf trip in Mauritius surfing a spot called tamarin thats my first reef break, its like 6ft and pitching a bit so its a really critical wave (at least for my level) and i've had some good waves, and some bad wipeouts. so I was thinking of my last session before I went to sleep and ended up dreaming about catching a long perfect peeling barrel and after turning around after it having a massive set break onto my head, and on the moment of impact I woke up. it was really weird, but reminded me to stay aware.

I dream I'm poised to go surfing but then I forgot my wetsuit or board at home, and it's about to get dark....
Also dream about watching other people surfing but rarely being in the water myself.

Q. How many of you dream about surfing?
A. I do, I do!

Reminds of quick story.

The doctor came to see me while in the hospital during May. The doctor removed from my head. "Doctor," I said with some excitement and pointing toward my heavily bandaged head. "Will I be able to surf when these bandages come off?"

"I don't see why not," replies the doctor.

"That's great," I exclaimed. “I wasn't able to surf before!"

I haven't had any surfing dreams that I can remember but after a long day out, when I'm in bed and close my eyes I see the waves coming in and that is a pretty stellar way to fall asleep!

I often fall asleep thinking about waves that I caught recently

I guess they are withdrawal dreams. I had another last night because I haven't been out for a week and there was some swell. But the winds were shitty anyway.

I only surfed 1-2 times per year when I lived in Chicago. It was a tough time, eventually couldn't stand the weather and moved out to California. I surf 5+ days a week now and couldn't be happier!
