I live in plymouth and im pretty new to surfing. I was just wondering where the best beaches around here are coz ive only been to a few and im getting pissed off driving soo far each time i go.

Also...where do you look for surf forecasts?

If you ride a shortboard you may struggle - Saunton has really long rides, but they are not steep and pretty slow which makes it ideal for longboards and mini-mals.

I tried to surf there on my 6'6 shortboard a few times (my friends all had longboards) I caught about 2 waves in 4 hours and they had some of their best sessions.

Actually one time I met a guy in the lineup who took pity on me - he told me to go back to the car park, find his VW camper and get the mini-mal off the roof!

What a top bloke!

According to http://www.theaa.com it would take 2hrs 12 minutes.

From Plymouth you're better off heading into Cornwall! Although looking at BeachWizard you've got a lot of breaks nearby - Bantham being a popular one.

Check out http://www.beachwizard.com/beach.asp?country=England&beachid=1270

There are loads of spots there - also move west into cornwall and you'll have tons more.

Try getting a wave near Leamington Spa in the Midlands - it's a much harder task!

i havnt surfed any of the local beaches yet coz everytime i have tried to they have been flat :(

I read on a website that bantham is one of the most consistant breaks in south devon...ive never seen anything good there so maybe they meant consistantly bad.

I usually go over to perranporth...its an easy drive so im not too bothered and its a nice beach anyway. I might have a look at penhale point next time im there. :D

it very rarely gets that crowded ive only seen it like that a few times and ive been surfing it for over 2 years now its quite easy to get the line up allto your self even in the summer, with a bit of size to the sets it allways thins out the crowed
