i'm in love

Postby DanJS14 » Thu Aug 25, 2005 2:48 am

So I have been surfing for one whole week, and I can't say how amazing its been. I can't even put it in words. At first, I was thinking I'm really going to suck at this. This isn't for me. People in Rhode Island don't surf, people in Hawaii surf. I've heard from friends who skated and snowboarded that surfing was A LOT harder and they all gave up.
When I paddled out and gave it a try, I immediately fell in love. You know you love something when you completely suck at it and have tons of fun anyway. I may look like a fool out there, paddling around and getting wrecked by waves, but even if I didn't progress at all (which I know I will) I would still go out everyday because of how fun it is.
I realize that some think its a waste of time and money, but for me, waiting half an hour to find that decent wave that will ultimately result in a wipeout and some terrible bruises for me is completely worth it.
In a matter of days you guys have inspired me with your posts, and have helped me to stick with it when it would be so much easier just to quit and give up. I will be surfing till I can't walk, and I encourage anyone who is thinking about quiting to talk to others on the site and help each other out.

*sorry im getting all emotional*

im so stoked, for tommorow i will ride the sick 1' 2' sets in rhode island. :o :o :o :o

know the feeling dude. fell in love last summer and everytime i have a bad session i just have the urge to get back out there thinking i love the sport. and when youre waiting for that wave, youre thinking of hardly anything else and its a great way to clear the mind.

I reckon it's an addiction.

When I haven't been for a while (like now) I get a near physical yearning for it!

It's hard to explain to someone who doesn't surf, but I find myself thinking about it all the time and... this is really sad....

If I'm driving somewhere and there is a grass bank on the side of the road I start measuring them and imagining them as waves!!

I know I'm desperate!!!

Its the best and coolest sport ever! I was hooked after the first time I went surfing. As soon as you catch your first wave you are hooked!! I would love to surf everyday if I could. Just wanna practice more and more so I can progress down to shorterboards. Even when I wipe out its fun and im determined then to do better!

It's definately an addiction and should come with a health warning!! "Surfing can seriously damage your life!!" But in a good way.. I think about it almost 24/7, when i can't sleep at night i just imagine sitting on my board looking for a wave.. If i haven't been in the water for a week my husband says it's 10 times worse than PMT!! In fact I'm an angel when i've got PMT compared to how i am if i've not surfed for a few days! It does take over your life but it's the best thing that ever happened to me! Sad!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah i know what you mean man. Before I learned how to surf, I never knew what people were talking about when they said how much they loved it. I thought they were weird and obsessed. When my buddy finally made me try it I fell in love with it immediately. Even though i suck at it I can go out with a smile and have a blast. I can't stand up but its great excercise paddling. :D

PS Surfing is definetely something you can't understand if u don't do it yourself.

I know exactly how you feel! My husband calls me surf-freak. I'm no longer allowed to mention anything remotely related to surfing when he's present. He said that he had enough with me talking about it all the time that he can't even bare to hear another word of it anymore. ha!

My board is gone for repair (it went through some nasty battering when got cought between rocks and waves)and won't be back for a week. It's gonna be a very very long week for me!
