Surfing Waves

Though this guys youtube home surf movies from the late 1970s might be of interest to a few. Some cool videos of Bali and Hawaii for our local residents, a few in California.

I've seen some of these. They're good. My favorite might be this one about a young guy going on surf safari to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. This cape is on the barrier islands in the Southeastern USA. There are many barrier islands along the USA's Atlantic seaboard, but the ones in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia are magical. In my past, I spent many years in this region conducting research, boating, fishing, camping, exploring, learning American history, and much more.

oh, and ghost and pirate stories abound for Cape Hatteras and the other southern barrier islands!

Those outer bank islands seem very interesting and fun. Although I remember reading about them when hurricane Matthew came through a few years ago; not much protection! Anyway, I’m jealous you managed to spend a lot of time out there

The other thing that struck me from the movies was how flat and thick the boards were. Almost zero rocker, but still no problems surfing them

I actually live on a tiny barrier island in Georgia. It is loaded with history, unfortunately though the waves are shitty unless their is hurricane swell, or a Nor’easter. Scary pitching waves too.

you must reveal which GA island, please! Mrs. Morini and I talk frequently about relocating from Santa Barbara to St. Simons Island. She has family living there, as well as elsewhere in GA, AL, and FL. Deceased relatives lived on Tybee Island.

By the way, isn't Cumberland Island simply magical?

Yes, Cumberland is amazing. It actually can pick up excellent swell! I see Cumberland from my island and go there by boat with friends who are charter captains.

I have spent time on little Cumberland too. Spooky spooky.

Far out!! Yes, Cumberland Island with it's Maritime Forest looks like it should have monkeys in the trees. In addition to the forest, I love the white sandy beaches and golden highlights on the wave crests.

Thank you for sharing that you live on Jekyll Island. This, indeed, indicates you are very fortunate. I'll share one of my Jekyll stories with you. Somewhere around 1982 or so, I visited Jekyll with my Norwegian girlfriend, a moderately successful funk musician (he had the condo), and the musician's lovely hippy girlfriend. I noticed blue tip Atlantic crab in the ponds on the golf course at the condo. I started trapping crab in the golf course ponds. Imagine the scene. High bucks area. Groomed golf course. Long haired 21 or 22 year old kid pulling crab from the golf course ponds. Enough crab were caught in one afternoon to make dinner for the 4 of us. Even more funny, I caught a 15 to 20 pound alligator snapper turtle in one of my traps. He was mad has H*ll. We pulled onto land. Made photos and let him loose. While making the photos, he did his best to bite me. I'll try to find some of the old printed snapshots from this adventure. If I can, then I'll scan and post them here.
