How does social media affect the lineup?
What differences do you see when the cameras and GoPros are turned on?

At my break people struggle with their cameras and their performance. Either they have a good ride and don't get the camera working or they get nervous because it's rolling and blow the wave. Wasted time and a lot of fun NOT had.

The aggressor in the video is a local Newport Beach Instagram character who calls himself Uncle Tito. Judging by the videos he posts, he seems to be typical of most Instagram pseudo-celebrities full of pseudo self-esteem — the kind of confidence derived from online popularity. In this day and age, many folks are forging their identities through likes and comments from social media and that is a consequence of a world where our value systems are off balance. Status is valued over character… We should discuss how social media has evolved localism and aggression in the lineup.

I think dude is a total d-bag. Hair pulling like a little bitch...he’d be nursing the dent in his face on his way in, right or wrong. I get the entertainment value of go-pros and the like, but this is just high schooler personal ego puffing. Judging from long hairs reaction, he was probably in the wrong. After seeing that I would most definitely drop in on said d-bag’s next ride as I would love to give this girl’s status a bump

if there wasn't social media the aggressor would probably still brag about it. You know thinking about it I met a guy at the beach and he showed me a picture on his cell phone that someone took of him at the break I often surf when it was breaking about 9 feet (18 foot faces) He was looking at the tubing wave breaking and holding his arms up overhead in a totally stoked gesture. I asked him if he caught any of those waves and he was like "Um no but I was out there" I guess really he was just stoked to be out near waves like that and to have photos to show he was there.

I have an Instagram account and post a photo about once a month. I follow about 123 people mostly people I know or surfers or musicians and have 95 followers most of whom I have no idea who they are or why they are following me. I prefer facebook. I used to have a myspace page and that was a good timewaster. Make your own page and modify it. It was fun diddling around with it but after a while it just seemed old. I was helping others I knew make their own pages or actually just making a page for them but then what? I had a friend send me an email that said "I made a facebook page and there are pictures there you can look at." Or something like that. Turns out this was just something facebook did is to send out a message like that to all you email contacts if you click the right or in this case wrong box. She had no pictures then (she does now). Anyway I created a facebook page and I was so disappointed I thought okay I better delete this thing but then a highschool classmate of mine who I hadn't seen in 30 or 40 years contacted me through facebook within 24 hours of me making this page. I got in touch with lots of people I used to know long ago with facebook so I still like it. I don't worry about how many likes I have on any platform. But Instagram is cool because it has lots of surfing videos

Pretty much never cared about how many likes I ever got……internet and social media ain’t changing that.

Some surfers make a living shooting videos of themselves surfing and getting enough likes or whatever. But I am suspicious of the above post since it is their only post and it has a link. Perhaps at some point my memory will fail and I will wonder what it was like to surf but for now it still remains clear in my mind.
